OK, the election is over despite the tantrums still being thrown by the Petulant One. When the smoke cleared, the recount insisted upon actually increased the lead Biden’s team won by. Careful what you ask for. So where does that leave us with The Wall? One of the focal points of Trump’s election in 2016 was that he would “protect” our southern border by fencing off the criminals and drugs coming in from Mexico. Let’s just ignore the fact that this wall used funds diverted from the Department of Defense budget, or that only a fraction of this promised barrier was actually constructed. The physical structure now covers approximately 500 miles of the promised 2000-mile wall. Yet another failed promise. But in a good way, as far as I’m concerned, this physical affront to humanity serves to reflect the personal prejudices and biases held by our country’s former leader. I pray that new leadership will restore the dignity of the Office of the President of the United States. I have seen the Berlin Wall toppled in my lifetime, and I would welcome the destruction of this latest paean to racism. I am old enough to remember when America really was The Greatest. Call it innocence, a lack of avarice, or whatever. It was better.
Now, how about the walls that you can’t see? Think of all the countries who have been alienated or disrespected by recent political policies. Think China, just for starters. Now, I might be an old country boy at heart, but the economic possibilities just with the people who have written us off or who have been pissed off by us seems like a lot of money left on several tables. Even more important than the international effects and opportunities, how about the walls here within the USA? I understand politics in our country, by its bi-partisan nature, is divisive. But as the transition continues to stall and be thwarted at every turn, our country is in global political limbo. That’s not just stupid, it’s dangerous. Bi-partisanship be damned. Do what is in the best interests of THE PEOPLE.
