Playoffs?!
Playoffs?!
Playoffs?!!!
Yes, they are inching closer…
Excruciatingly slow for college football fans and even more slowly if your team or teams is/are still in contention for one of the coveted 12 available spots. There are very few certainties anymore in the college football world where champions are bought and sold like prized cattle and short-term dynasties of a couple of seasons seem to be the road to a national championship and the riches that follow.
No more player development and less time to develop the intangible team “chemistry” that is often the determining factor in winning it all are two downers, but it isn’t congruous in today’s Win Now! environment.
I just don’t see it as a sustainable business model.
That being said, here’s my take on the twelve:
- Just go ahead and give the trophy to the Ohio State Buckeyes every year, and if they have to, they can give it back.
- I have eaten my dish of crow on the Hoosiers. They are legit natty contenders.
- Texas A&M is still undefeated. Two teams Irish fans don’t talk about are the Aggies and the Hurricanes.
- Georgia. You know they seem to be lurking in the top three or four teams at each season’s end.
- I have to admit I didn’t see them coming this year at all, but Texas Tech has positioned themselves well so far.
- Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss teams are fun to watch.
- Oregon looks a little vulnerable at times, I think they can be had.
- Oklahoma. If you get the GOOD Oklahoma, you could get your ass beat, If you get the BAD Oklahoma, you can take the day off.
- God’s favorite football team. Somewhere in the scriptures it says that you either love Notre Dame football or you damn yourself and your heirs to a fiery enclave in hell for all eternity. Something like that.
10-Alabama. Come on. You can’t have a playoff without the Crimson Tide. Not really.
11-Miami. Another team the Irish faithful don’t talk about.
12. Tulane. No idea.
As you know, a lot can change, and as a lifelong ND fan I am hoping the lads get in, but if it comes down to deciding whether the Irish get in or whether Miami gets in, there is absolutely no argument. They beat us straight up.
But my fingers are crossed.
I hope we can buy the best team next year.
There is still a lot of football left to play and some intriguing matchups and it’s my favorite time of the year.
I don’t think people even notice the old bowl system being replaced because there is so much revenue to be had which eventually will find its way into funding all sports teams at universities, so it’s a win-win.
I hate when I hear of gambling on sports, especially by those in whom we have trust to ensure there is above all, a fairness and an integrity to the sport.
That is the minimum the fan deserves.
Put your money away.
It’s no good here.
Stay well.
