Social Media

I admit, I suck at it.

If you have followed any of my blogging adventures, you know I still don’t have a handle on it. The fact that this blog is being posted about 8 hours later than I normally post is further evidence of it.

I still don’t get the whole social media thing.

I will most likely go to my grave not fully understanding it. Where did the need to be listened to, to have your thoughts and ideas documented, when did that become a basic human need like food and water?

Don’t get me wrong; I enjoy the spotlight. The basic ego stroke it provides, a validation of sorts, of your very existence, and the overall great feelings it produces are a necessary part of the Human Evolution.

However, in my own case, I have usually gone the other way on the whole “need for validation” thing. I prefer to fly under the radar; you can get a whole lot more accomplished without being held circumspect and analyzed and overanalyzed. This is a departure from my thinking when I was a young man, but I don’t think social media is a medium I would ever have gravitated towards because frankly it is nobody’s business what the fuck I am doing, where I am doing it, or what the fuck I am eating.

That, in a nutshell, are my thoughts on the animal that is social media.

Since my thoughts on the subject are not going to be confused with anything of substance, I wonder what the future of social media will look like in twenty or thirty years?

Big Brother?

If the way that social media is “trending” continues, nothing will ever be private again.

The fact that the former President of the United States used social media with all the aplomb and maturity of a thirteen-year old girl did not help in legitimizing it.

If you don’t want to run the risk of exposing your personal information for all the world to see, don’t use it.

Speaking only for myself, I don’t do much interacting at all on Facebook and I have never posted on any other social media platform. Every so often I will see a friend post something that will make me laugh and I will hit the “like” button.

I think the best thing about social media are the “fails” videos where people do things that defy human logic, some are even successful. Or the crazy shit the daredevils of the world post of their high-flying antics, shit I wouldn’t try even if I still had two functioning legs.

I am having a blast getting stoned, playing music, and writing this blog.

That’s the extent of my use of fb.

I am closing in on 100 followers and although, in the big scheme of things that doesn’t even register as a blip on most radars, I am thrilled to have 100 people checking my writings out.

They came and took pictures of our house for the sales listing yesterday and finally Karen can rest a bit.

She has done almost everything.

Amazing woman.

Stay well.
