The 2026 World Cup is going on, and my impressions are that Argentina still has “it,” Ronaldo doesn’t, England look dangerous (not all that keen on skipper Thomas Tuchel), but shaky, Germany are strong as ever, and the Dutch are far from the high-flying days. Despite having a ball-buster scoring machine in Erling Haaland, Norway doesn’t have enough quality everywhere else on the squad, so I don’t consider them a threat to win it all.
I loved the underdogs and the upsets which will not happen as often as we progress through the tournament, but it was so cool to see the big stars show up and show out with braces and hat tricks on the planet’s biggest stage.
My early prediction for the semi-finals after seeing all forty-eight teams in action is Argentina, Spain, France, and Croatia.
