I don’t think so.
I know in the very few times I actually felt miserable, the last thing I wanted was company.
I pulled a Marlene Dietrich, not wanting any healthy reminders of my human frailty on display for anyone.
It is what is keeping me from gigging out in bars and breweries in spite of the several monthly requests I still receive and have to refuse.
Although I still have the chops to entertain, and I KNOW I should have more of an open mind, I am embarrassed by being onstage confined in my wheelchair.
I actually attempted to place an ad for wheelchair-bound musicians to start up a band but got absolutely NO takers.
I get it.
It sucks having to struggle to get my equipment to and from practices and gigs, and it sucks even more because I have to watch my wife struggle to help get me loaded and unloaded.
But she never complains; she never has.
Back when I was whole, I could take some badass leaps on and offstage during the course of a gig.
Now, unless I can roll my wheelchair up onstage, it might as well be K2.
When, not if, I get to the stage of not being able to control my bladder, you can bet I will call it a day and live on past recordings and memories.
I had a good run.
But I can’t help but feel I have more left in the tank.
Robert James Ritchie, aka Kid Douchebag, is another musician that needs to go back to their multi-million dollar double-wide and STFU.
He hasn’t been musically relevant for decades now, and no one cares to hear his racist views on anything.
How many more “major blows” can the Ukraine deliver to that bald little lawn gnome Putin’s Russia before the refs call it?
Don’t get me started on my Manchester United football club.
Relegation?
Manchester United?
WTF?
OK, so Carrick isn’t the answer.
He’s also not the only problem facing the Mancunians.
Bruno Fernandes is shot.
He needs to go.
Lisandro Martinez needs to join him.
So does Harry Maguire.
Ditto for Senn Lammens.
Marcus Rashford.
Amad Diallo is starting to slip into the lethargy category, too.
I still don’t see why Kobbie Mainoo is held in such high regard; he plays with no passion or energy, his eyes perpetually at half-mast.
Next step: Find someone who knows how to properly value/devalue players and quit overspending for players past their prime or who never live up to expectations.
DO NOT LOWER expectations!
Look.
Face facts.
You totally fucked up and it is time for the organization to eat shit and take the losses off their books and start over.
Hiring Eddie Howe as the next manager will only help if the players step up and play with the same pride displayed by the sparse, standing ovation by the few faithful traveling fans that refused to give up as the team has.
College football season is heading into the home stretch and, for a change, there doesn’t appear to be any teams that have separated themselves from the pack. Miami and UCLA remain the only teams without a loss, but nobody is taking the Bruins very seriously and they could end up with multiple losses.
My Irish, and their weak strength of schedule, will be severely tested by the Miami Hurricanes in next week’s Game of the Year in South Bend.
I’m thinking the winner of that game will be in great shape for a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff.
I also believe that perennial contenders Ohio State will miss the playoff with another loss.
Same with defending national champion Indiana, who I predicted before the season began would not make the playoff.
We shall see.
Still a lot of football left to be played.
Go Irish!
Stay well.
